Is Robert Pattinson pretentious?

Rob showers AND reads...

Rob showers AND reads...

Our 2nd class of Roblosophy is in session

Dear Rob,

I saw the pictures of you holding a book recently and wondered to myself what you were reading. I figured I could blow up the picture & throw a little photoshop filter on to try and read the title myself, OR I could just tweet my question knowing someone’s probably already done the dirty work for me. (Moon & UC tip of the day, start a blog & get a lot of people to read it and then just ask THEM to do all the research for you- it’s a whole lotta fun)* Turns out I didn’t even have to tweet because the gals at Robsessed had someone figure it out for them!

Looks like you’re reading Independent People by Halldor Laxness. Like any good fan, I immediately went to Amazon to purchase the book. Ya know, just in case we end up in a bar together & need something to talk about other than what we’ll obviously be doing later that night (skyping with Kristen. duh) Although I am a good fan, I’m also frugal, and I wanted to make sure I was going to enjoy what I was spending my $10.85 on.

You might judge me now, but I thought the description of the book sounded like it sucks. Big time. I decided I wouldn’t admit that to the world or my friends, but would just pretend I never found out what book you were holding. A few hours later, The Quad (yes, they still exist) received an e-mail from EastFriend entitled “No matter what you do” Read it after the jump

EastFriend: DO NOT attempt to read Independent People…just because Rob was carrying it. It is long. It is confusing. It is painful. It is arduous. It is BORING. If he’s trying to appear all mysterious and educated and cultured for reading it, he failed. Cause an ounce of pretension is worth a pound of manure.
I will write him a freakin’ letter…
Dear Rob,
Dude, get some Danielle Steele…Jackie Collins…James Patterson…or better yet, The Hunger Games. It’s freaking SUMMER. Time for smut, beach reads, and can’t-put-downables.
Love you,
The Reader (not that pervy The Reader, who molests 15 year old kids. Just so you know.)

UC: I may have already googled it to see if it was a good read.
I fell asleep reading the description. I don’t think he’s pretentious. I really think he loves that book. I think he just might be boring. Let’s send him some Nicholas Sparks & naked pics of ourselves.

EastFriend: I think he’s the opposite of pretentious…I really do.  But this book?  Why else in the heck would he even be giving it more than a cursory glance?  Oh, Rob…you are so educated.
I don’t think he’s boring.  He can’t be boring.  He has a giggly girl laugh.  No one who giggles like that is boring.
I’m down with the Sparks and naked pictures.  But ONLY if we are HOLDING A Walk to Remember (the godliest of his books, of course!) WHILE naked.

ok just amazon-ed ‘independent people’- worst written synopsis ever.
got tons of 5 stars though… hmmmmm. maybe it’s for a new movie coming up? his grandma sent it to him to read? he’s in a super secret bookclub of old ladies in NYC? the possibilities are endless!

WestFriend: Dude. I loved Shane West. I had a very pixelated picture of him printed out, and slid into my clear-view binder in Jr. High. You know you had a clear view at some point! (Wow- WestFriend did not mention Rob in this setence)

So… what is it? Are you pretentious? Are you boring? Are you too educated? Why are you reading a book that looks that dull? Before you assume I’m shallow-minded & just a gal who likes reading young adult fiction about vampires, let me remind you I’m a college-educated (magna cum laude, thank you very much) professional who reads non-fiction, listens to NPR & drinks tea. That’s right. Tea. And I’m not even British. I love literature. I love great reads that aren’t on the New York Times best sellers’ list. I can ‘hang’ with the smarty-pants, but DUDE- that book looks like it sucks! What’s going on?

See ya in book club,

So what is it? Is Rob a little pretentious? Might he be, gasp, BORING!? Spill your thoughts!

Then do mindless stuff in the forum
And become a Jashley-shipper over on LTT

*Please never stop with all your emails, responding to our tweets for help & just knowing much more about Rob & Twilight than we do. We’d die if we didn’t have you all helping us out with our letter writing! We’d have so much less time to drool over pics of Rob. We heart you all! XO

  1. I also went to Amazon yesterday after reading the title on Robessed and instantly thought he was way to smart for me…it kind of made me sad to think about. But my friend & I blamed it on him being British.

    • good point. British guys DO seem way too smart for us..

      • Okay, so I’m not saying Rob’s pretentious… but how about highfalutin? I googled it myself, and apparently the author of Independent People, Halldor Laxness, is a Nobel Prize author. Queue the eyebrow raise. Everyone, but apparently Rob, that the Nobel Prize for literature has little to do with literary excellence. I rest my case:

“The novel (and author) is considered among the main proponents of social realism in Icelandic fiction in the 1930s.”

Um…. WHAT?! Did that just say ‘Icelandic fiction’?!?!?! How on earth does someone like ROB pick up a copy of Icelandic fiction? Especially since this particular one was out of print for many years (um, need we ask why?). I think it’s safe to say, unless Rob has a excruciatingly boring friend in Iceland, this book wasn’t recommended to him.

So how did he come across this little…gem…? I’m convinced it was one of either three ways:

        1. He googled “Nobel Prize Literature” and was given a list of all the winners since 1901, skipping over authors like Hemingway (Stein-who?), picking the name ‘Laxness’ for it’s similarity to ‘laxative’ (you know it’s true, odd british humor) and proceeded to any-many-miney-mo his way through the list of “noted works”.

        2. He stole it from a poor Icelandic man on the plan to use as a shield from the giggling girls back in coach and thought it might make a nice coaster for his dunkin donuts cup.

        3. He stole it from a homeless man who was about to use it as firewood because he thought it would go nicely with his outfit. Hey, you have to have a little color amidst all that black, right?

In any case, clearly there’s some… highfalutin going on no matter what. Did you see that picture? Who walks around, holding their book out in front of them like a waiter with a tray, with a nice straight on view of the binding. If this was a clip from a movie I was watching, my fam would yell “product placement!” Let’s be honest, out of all the books we’ve heard of him reading, the majority of them you’ll only found being read by people getting their Masters in English… and even then they use sparknotes.

      • But part of the reason I love him is his British readitude. Hot boys read books, gaining extra points for lame-o boring ones. I find his choice a massive win, although I’m not reading it.

      • Yup! Even I didn’t get to marry one and I am English …

    • There are some interesting reads on Rob here –

  2. Okay, before coming here to read today’s LTR post, I was thinking that may be I should ask you girls for some recommendations non-fiction or non-vamp types of books. And Voila! Today’s post is about books.

I don’t think he’s pretentious. He’s just reading anything and everything he feels he would like to read. A book cannot reveal someone’s personality. Sometimes we all experiment on our own regardless of reviews or what other people say.
Oh one more thing, was he shooting during at that time. That book could be for Tyler.

    P.S. Some book recommendation please.
    -fiction[non-vamp, non-hobbits, non-gnomes etc]
    -non-fiction
    -romance
    -thought provoking
    -classics as such.

    Thanks girls.

    • I have ecclectic taste in authors / subject matter, but here’s some of my faves…
Stones from the River – Ursula Hegi
Water for Elephants – Sara Gruen
East of Eden – John Steinbeck
Bonk, Stiff or Spook (3 books) – Mary Roach (nonfiction)
A Son of the Circus – John Irving (really, anything by John Irving is good)
Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil – John Berendt (nonfiction)

      • Steinbeck is amazing. Brilliant writer. Keeps it simple but very powerful.

That is a very diverse list of books.

    • @shuddertothink Thanks. Any one of them have free ebook link. If you don’t then its okay. I took notes of the list. Thanks once again.

      • sorry hon! I tried to find links, but the site I went to didn’t have the titles…
        http://www.bookreporter.com is a good site for reviews/synopsis

    • Good point! Somebody may have recommended it to him, given it to him, it could be for the shoot…we are dorks!

    • I don’t read books these days, only FF.
I have been corrupted, ruined, by the LOTN.

So if you want recommendations on The Office, Dom/Sub, Alphabet Weekends, TOV, or WA, I can oblige.

Otherwise… Sorry. My life has turned virtual.

      • Dont worry hun, this is the reason why I need non-ff books. I have been ruined too. I am just trying to recover.

        • S’pose there are worse things to be ruined by.
It’s always good to know that others are in the same boat.
          That it is… NORMAL.

      • any great FF’s you can recommend? waiting for WA and need something else to keep me busy. Doesn’t even have to be twilight related. Thanks! :)

        • have you checked out the fan fic section on our forum? letterstotwilight.com/forum … there are TONS of options there!

    • “The Great Gatsby” by F. Scott Fitzgerald
“A Separate Peace” by John Knowles

    • I blogged about books to read in May – here’s the link, in the middle of “The Book Thief” and loving it, also reading Artemis Fowl, Peace Like a River and Three cups of tea… I read a lot…

      • here’s the link: http://thechroniclesofemilymarie.blogspot.com/2009/05/books-you-should-read.html

      • Artemis Fowl is THE BEST.
        Huge fan.
It’s almost as good as Harry.
The whole series is absolutely brilliant.

        • Yeaah!! They’re great! I’m finishing re-reading the HP series, and then I’ll move on to Artemis Fowl. I tried to read it a couple of years ago, but my English kinda sucked.

    • Try Pride and Prejudice and Zombies – trust it’s classic literature meets dawn of the dead!

      • that’s shaun of the dead

    • Just finished Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert and thought it was amazing! Here’s a small list of some others I recommend:
I Capture the Castle – Dodie Smith
And Only to Deceive – Tasha Alexander (This is the first in a series)
The Hungar Games – Suzanne Collins
The Thursday Next Series by Jasper Fforde (The Eyre Affair is the first one)
Year of Wonders – Geraldine Brooks
      Shopgirl – Steve Martin
Anything by Nicholas Sparks, Eva Ibbotson, Mary Kay Andrews, or Jennifer Weiner
And I know you said non-vampire, but if you haven’t read the Blue Blood series by Melissa de la Cruz, you should definitely check them out.
      Ok I’ll stop now. :)

  3. Wow..first comment. It really is a special day for me. It happens so rarely. *Sniffs*

    • I guess not. : (

  4. You know, it’s funny…I was considering reading one of the books he’d been spotted with, just for kicks. A look into his mind. Then I thought, wait! Maybe he’s just messing with us! Maybe he reads comic books, techy mags, and porn like every other twenty-three year old male. Maybe this is like the wonky buttons, and the shirt knots…they’re taking a piss! Then I realized, dude…maybe he’s just a guy who reads abstruse lit to pass the time, and has undeveloped fine motor skills? Is it possible I want to do him even more?

Somebody fill me in…I thought he, admittedly, didn’t thrive in school? That he never pursued higher education besides acting? Do I have this wrong? College preparatory elementary or not, he doesn’t strike me as over educated. Possibly just naturally intelligent, and curious. Not all bright individuals do well in school, sometimes the framework isn’t the right fit. But he’s most definitely intense. Maybe that’s why he drinks so much to lighten up, that…and he’s a Brit!

    and this…

EastFriend: Rob’s in an urban hipster book club in SoHo. They wear beanies and discuss cold fusion. Over Stoli on ice. Hopefully he’s preparing for his next role. Cause I’d dig him as an urban hipster in a beanie. In glasses. Oh. My. Stars. That’d be smokin’ hot.

Dear God girl, if you’re right about this…especially the glasses, I fear my panties have seconds to live.

    • “Maybe he’s just messing with us! Maybe he reads comic books, techy mags, and porn like every other twenty-three year old male.”

      I bet.

And you’re right- almost failed one grade, right? And no college.. my guess is he isn’t book smart.. but is actually intelligent … and hot. can’t forget hot

      • Hot. Like this kind of hot – http://www.celebrity-gossip.net/images/thumbnails/robert-pattinson-6309-5.jpg

Um. What were you talking about?

        • have mercy

        • Smoking never LOOKED SOOOO GOOD!
          Oh MY!

        • I agree with hunnieb. That pic deserves a full on Uncle Jesse “HAVE MERCY”!

        • Urgh. Hate bloody cigars :[

        • F*ck that. Who does he think he is going around looking this hot all the time? What the hell?!!

I love him even when he smokes around kids (like he was doing when this pap pic was taken).

Ugh! he is so beautiful, can’t stand it!

      • i think school might have been boring for him, but he’s well read and is intelligent. they don’t always go hand in hand. some of the smartest people dont like school.

also i think these books are just a cover. he has porno mags or the latest issue of wired stuffed inside and thats what he’s really reading!

      • Comic books or obscure, cerebral lit…I still want him to do me against a door. Justsayin. Hot is hot. PTL!

      • I agree….see below :)

        • Um…above….

    • I’m with you on that. I believe him to be very intelligent — one of those people who are so intelligent that (s)he is bored to tears by regimented classroom structure.

What book did he give Kristen after meeting her? Wasn’t it “Doomed Love” by Virgil? Virgil? Who in God’s good name gives a book of ancient Greek poetry to someone they just met? Apparently His Hotness does. Damn, he probably read it in the original Greek…on a lark…for funsies…’cuz he does that shite all the time.

      He’s so hot right now.

  5. wow i was afraid i was gonna be alone in thinking that book looked like it sucked. in fact, out of that whole list of books robsessed had yesterday there were only two books that i was considering reading.
i have no idea why rob reads boring books, but i guess i couldnt see him ever reading any of my beach books. i probably wouldnt even ever peg him as one to read twilight if he hadnt been in the movie.

    • Yes. I doubt Rob would have been a unicorn. And I’m fine with that:) (you’re not alone!)

      • i bet rob would have read twilight, just for it’s ho gettin potential. in my head nonfamous rob is all about ho gettin. he knows he wayyyyy to dorky and awkward to pull hot girls like kspew on his own so he starts beefin up his non smarty pants convo skills so he can wow the ladies with talk of sparle peens and what not. and if all else fails, he’ll sing a lil song he’s been working on, it’s call ” I always think”, the title is a work in progress of course.

        • ho getting potential! HAHAHA

        • hahaha…I read this post outloud to my daughter, sent it to my sister, laughed a lot, then came back to read it again today. “I always think”, that was the most I’ve laughed in ages. Thanks, aquiredtaste, you made my day.

          Sparkle peen!?! This is priceless.

    • he didnt even know about twilight, and would prolly be like most of the other guys and say, “find someone real, not fiction!”

ahem.. as said by every guy in my workplace when i walk in w/ my team edward tote bag….. :D

      • I have one of those too. It embarrasses the hell out of my boyfriend. That is a bonus.

  6. I have a HUGE varied taste in authors, I love Gravity’s rainbow by Thomas Pynchon and everyone I know thinks THAT’s pretentious! : ) I’ve had Ticket to Ride for years and I really enjoyed it but I like Dennis Potter’s style (no I didn’t get it because Rob read it…but I’d gladly discuss it with him anytime! )

    I really think Rob just enjoys reading…and that’s why I love him….ermm..for his big brain : )

  7. Ok…I’ll leave all the book discussion bit to you lot as I’ve got to get on with knitting a sparklepeen….

U.C. is that your porn stash on your bedside locker?
You do know it’s not authorised by Rob don’t you?
    Are the pics any good?
Should I invest in a copy? <3 you all

    • It’s NOT NORMAL to NOT own one! GET IT NOW! ;-)

      • I don’t need a copy of a book that was out of date the day it was published when you refer us to far more… intriguing… videos and photos on a daily basis!

    • haha.. there’s NOTHING in it that you havent’ seen or read…. it’s a gift from a friend!

      • I have to admit I have ‘True love never dies by Josie Rusher’ my Bessie Mate brought it to enable my obsession and show her support…she somehow hasn’t fallen herself {confused expression on my face now}.
But it too was soooo far behind photo and news wise, I’d not bother with this sort of book, we have far better Rob porn here and off the net….

  8. Okay, I can’t google the interview (think it was one of the MTV ones) but didn’t Rob give Kristen some high brow literature during the filming of Twilight? I don’t think he’s pretentious, I think he’s just one of those super smart (sometimes socially awkward people) who didn’t thrive in a conventional school setting. Perhaps I can get my bff, to actually comment on here since she has read just about every book in existence.

    • Virgil or Vergil or however you spell it.

The fact that he even knows who a Roman poet/philosopher (one of the greatest poets of all time, one of the founding fathers of poetry) was might actually answer UC’s argument.

      • I think you can actually spell it both ways, but Virgil is more common…. and no, i do think he’s legitimately intelligent and not pretentious… and i think he can hang. and have f un. and laugh.. but .. oh my gosh.. i need to write a letter about this.. he is my childhood best friend. they ARE the same person.. it hits me more and more every day.

        • Do it! Do it UC!
          Write the letter.
          Do ROB tomorrow!
          You know you want to.

          • sigh. i always want to…. i just have to share sometimes with moon..

          • Ahh… the blog-curse.
            Sharing Rob.
            The hardship.

I see you’ve been sharing Rob with Ted C, too.

The uberblog is pretty much a day at LTR these days – only a few days later.

  9. “need something to talk about other than what we’ll obviously be doing later that night (skyping with Kristen. duh)”

“Rob’s in an urban hipster book club in SoHo. They wear beanies and discuss cold fusion. Over Stoli on ice.”

    LMAO! <3 it!

    • “discuss cold fusion”

I don’t imagine any fusion with Rob would be cold.

  10. Didn’t Rob admit to reading fanfic in his spare time? Maybe he carries these books around to cover up the most recent installment of the office he just printed, folded, and shoved in the middle of the book.

    • hahaha BRILLIANT thought!

    • Gold.

    • That’s exactly it. I’ve been walking around with Anna Karenina for months, and if you open it up there’s pages with headers that say: Valentine Pineapple Pairs Part 1 & 2 and of course Ch 11 of The Office ‘Je ne regrette rien’. It’s a disguise, I’m positive of it.

      • Clearly a woman of taste and discretion.

Je ne regrette rien – jeezuz – how hot is that chapter?

  11. Robert Pattinson album, really, I would never expect something like that from you UC, really? LOL

    http://twitpic.com/8uf56

I read variety of books, like russian and english classics, I love F. Scott Fitzgerald, Raymond Chandler and Brett Easton Ellis but the authors that really touched me in last couple of years are Amelie Nothomb, Michel Houellebecq and Frederic Beigbeder.

I don’t think reading Laxness is pretentious, it’s like reading Dostojevski or Tolstoj ( don’t how to spell those two in english ), it is slow and epic and it takes time but you enjoy it.

    • i love smart girls who read legit stuff & love Twilight too! makes you real & NOT pretentious! XO

    • Loves me some F. Scott. My daughter is named after the main character in This Side of Paradise.

    • slow and epic and takes time, but you enjoy it – lmao! yeah, that’s what I’m thinking it would be like with Rob…

sorry, the inner dirty girl won’t go away today!

  12. well, i reckon he hasnt even cracked that book open. look at it! its in perfect condition..
you know he isnt the most careful with his clothes or belongings. if he is really reading that book, it would be trashed (oh trash ME rob.. whoops, um…)

i saw an interview once where he was talking about how he tried to impress kristen when they first met, he was recommending all these books and films to her that he admits he never read or watched lol.

    • haha.. hilarious.

maybe kristen sent that to him and he’s trying to impress her- by being caught photographed with it… thinking he’ll trick her into thinking he’s read it

    • LOL! i saw that interview!! haha
i def laughed on that one!

  13. maybe that book is just part of the props for the movie.

  14. It’s good to know that he has a practical use for the daddy case. God knows what else he is lugging around in that thing.

    “skyping Kristen, duh” – Gold!!

  15. Yeah, not pretentious. Just British!

Speaking of smutty adult fiction, I’m reading a book right now called “Dark Desires After Dusk” by Kresley Cole. Now before you poo-poo it for the title, let me tell you… It’s a great read. It’s very involved and character-driven. I adore this book right now. And it involves huge (ahem), sexy demon/men. Rob would love it too. In secret.

  16. What the hell is cold fusion?

I am clearly not pretentious or cool if I don’t know what that is.

I’m ok with reading Twilight and Harry Potter. Proud in fact.*

*I am actually an avid reader of classics but do enjoy the occasional ride on fantasy.

    • “What the hell is cold fusion?”

It’s when Bella experiences the cold, hard sparklepeen for the first time.

      Sorry, I couldn’t resist. ;-)

      • I love it, Jena. Also, “Sparklepeen” has always sounded like toothpaste to me.

      • Ahh… first time with the marble member! Gold!
        Brilliant, Jena!

        LMAO.

      • That’s freakin’ awesome!! LOL

      • I Love your face!!!!

        LMAO!!!!!

        WIN!

      • You win, Jena.
        And you’re probably right.

      • Jena,

You are on fire today! (Ha, ha – pun intended!)

  17. I have the kindle app on my iphone, so all of my books are electronic these days, and mostly I just like smut. HA! If you don’t have to think too hard, I’m thoroughly entertained, srsly. But I did buy the paperback of “The Haunting of Toby Jugg” to try and understand that Haunted Airman movie of Rob’s…. yeah I didn’t get 3 pages in before I put it down. It’s just a big diary, btw, incase you are thinking it will explain the movie…. well, I couldn’t tell you if it does because I only got 3 pages in then put it on my nightstand.

I looked up that book on amazon yesterday, yeah it didn’t do it for me… usually I’m attracted to a book that has a flashy cover. hahaha! So since it didn’t, I didn’t make it past the picture. I don’t even know what it’s about but I do know I won’t read it… I pick out movies the same way. hahahaha! I’m real deep, right? ;)

  18. I don’t think Rob’s pretentious, I think he’s weird, and I love him for it.

Independent People by Halldor Laxness: “a huge, skaldic treat filled with satire, humor, pathos, cold weather and sheep”

    Ah, Icelandic sheep-based pathos.

    • Sheep?!?!?!

This puts a whole new spin on things.

  19. Who has time to read anythign other than the twlight series over and over?;) Actually I’m still trying to locate the new Twilight Magazine thingy that just came out last week….as if i need more Rob pron in my office

  20. I really don’t think Rob’s pretentious and deliberately carrying that book around just to impress people. I probably wouldn’t read that book, but it didn’t surprise me at all that he did – dude, we all know he’s a dork – and his tastes are kind of eclectic and weird.

Random fact: recently while on Linked In – supposedly to update my profile & try to find a better job – I searched to see if any of the PattzFamily was there and lo & behold, I found 1 of his sisters. Learned that she is an Economic History grad of the London School of Economics (LSE) – just 1 of the most prestigious uni’s in the world. So yes, I don’t think it’s too much of a stretch to believe that our Rob is really quite smart. Dude’s really got great genes. As if we needed any more convincing. ;)

  21. New Lainey pics of Rob looking hot in a fountain. Yes, a fountain.

Especially liking the one of him leaning back in a *do me* pose.

Those are new shades. Ce lest vie, Wayfarers? Say it isn’t so.

    http://www.laineygossip.com/Robert_Pattinson_rides_bike_on_set_of_Remember_Me_in_New_York.aspx?CatID=0&CelID=0

  22. My friend just stopped by to tell me she’s on the way to the library and asked if I needed anything. What a great gal. I told her to look for Independent People. LOL!

I read Amis’ Money before Rob talked about it and it was pretty good but way too British for me. Too many British-isms in it. I will give this book a chance because I’m hopeless, helpless, and hapless when it comes to Rob.

That and I just need something to read right now that doesn’t give me eyestrain like the smutty FF does. ;-)

Is Rob pretentious? No way! The guy talked about shitting his pants at an award show! No pretention there, but maybe a pound of manure?

  23. Rob? Boring? Well, he can bore the pants off me me any day. True story.

  24. Don’t be fooled! I know for a fact the only books he reads are the Uncle John’s Big Bathroom books. C’mon, this is just a ploy to see if he can get some random obscure, most likely horrible book in the the NY Times Bestseller List just by carrying it around.

Oh Rob, I can read you like a book. A scratch-and-taste book. Oh wait, those don’t exist. Dammit!

    • “C’mon, this is just a ploy to see if he can get some random obscure, most likely horrible book in the the NY Times Bestseller List just by carrying it around.”

Yesss, that would be sooo something I would do, if I was somebody like him. That’s why he isn’t buttoning his shirts properly too: just to see if people will follow this, and turn it into a trend. That way he could have a few great laughs with his friends about it later!!!

    • “get some random obscure, most likely horrible book in the the NY Times Bestseller List”

      Like Oprah.

    • scratch and taste books – lol!!!

    • Good point :)
But I’m not sure. He’s got that sense of humour, but he’s also really smart (and should I say bizarre? Always loved weirdos. I’m a weirdo myself lol) back to point- … so I would not be surprised if he’s reading the book. Hell, I read a lot of ‘boring’ books that weren’t actually as boring to me as they were to everyone else. And it also seems quite possible that’s just his character’s choice of book.

  25. yeahhh.. im not into this book either. i enjoy tryin out new things, i might give this one a shot..
    but about sheep? reallly?!

  26. Er, I looked at that book and thought the exact same thing – BORING. There were a few others ones he’s been rumored to carry around and some of them look horrifyingly dull as well.

And I don’t just read Twilight. I like a vast variety of books (Ayn Rand and Anthony Burgess being some of my favorite authors) but I don’t think Rob was necessarily being pretentious.

  27. LOL! I remember looking up one of the other books he had been spotted with a few months back and the “people who bought this book also bought:” on Amazon had all the books he’d been spotted with and all the Twilight Series books. LMAO! Maybe the Gov’t is using Rob as a secret weapon to promote literacy among Americans or make us boring?! HMMM.

    • I saw that too! It cracked me up. And also was kind of creepy. :)

  28. i think he just enjoys the irony of carrying a book of this title while walking amidst a group of bouncers. he is so obviously NOT independent anymore.

  29. it’s a good thing he’s pretty because I sincerely believe he’s closer to an airhead than savant.

The verbal diarrhea, though so endearing, just doesn’t equate to a beautiful mind for me.
It’s all good, though, cause my daydreams are more of the physical interaction variety *wink*

  30. You lost me at Rob in glasses. Dead. Died. Done.

I think he is a little boring. He says he is, and we all know how he can’t shut his mouth in an interview! and maybe it was a joke, because he is no longer independent but herded like cattle now by body guards!? Who knows. All I know is…now everyone and their mom will have that book and that author just sent Robbie a fruit basket and 12 signed copies.

  31. I got bored reading the synopsis at amazon and a little confused. Hmm back to the TwiPorn for me ;-)

I’m guessing he has some takeout menus shoved in it and a list of bars he’s gonna hit later. heehee

  32. OK just a thought here and please remember that I did not read EVERY response because darnit I have Fan fics to keep up with

Here is my thoughts on him and this book

I have a theory that Rob likes to mess with his fans just cause he has a strange sense of humor

So based on that I bet he found the most boring book he could and decided to carry it around like it was something he liked just to see if fans would fall for it and he can sit back and laugh his ass off as fangirls around the world try to read it

I base my theory on pics of him the looks the clothes you know he is toying with his fans the big tease

and I would not read it cause I have enough books to read not to mention my many many fan fics to keep up with

so chew on that for a while ladies ..yeah… it’s all a game for him LOL

    • thank you for taking time out of your fan fic reading to comment XOXOXO

      I LOVEEEE that theory!

  33. Yeah, I have the kindle so I now only read books available in the electronic form (which isn’t Harry Potter btw :( ) Since all of the classics are free I’ve been attempting to read them, it took me a month and a half to get through Little Women…

Since it’s summer I go towards the mindless books, I love the Stephanie Plum books by Janet Evanovich and when I’m in the mood for some adult goodness I go for anythiing by Susan Elizabeth Phillips (Match Me if You Can is my fav by her) it’s a great mix of story and sexin!

Ummm, when I saw the title of what Rob was reading I didn’t even bother looking it up, I don’t think Rob and I would have much in common literature wise, that is unless he loves Jane Austen (hey he’s a brit, she’s a brit, could happen)

  34. I can’t get into the books Rob talks about. So I figure if I see him in a bar I’m just going to buy him enough beer he’d just want to sing rather than talk.
    I’m just not that deep.

  35. I read it. Enjoyed it. Wouldn’t read it again though
But then again I’m a Philosophy major and a Lit minor somewhere in my junior year of college boring stuff became interesting. How’s that for pretentious?
I better level out the playing field here:
I also still read through trashy magazines I have both a tmz and an e! News app on my I phone and I still watch reruns of full house …. And laugh out loud at said reruns.

  36. So I just looked on Amazon to read the boring info on this book, and it is OUT OF STOCK.. because of our Robbie??
I wouldn’t be bored by Rob- he wouldn’t even have to speak…

    • OH MY GOSH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! that is the single most pathetic thing I HAVE EVER HEARDDDDDDDDDD!

    • This man could totally turn the economy around. Let’s see what else he can get us to buy! LOL

      • So far, I have five pairs of Ray-Bans, two JanSport backpacks, a cupboard full of Coke and just yesterday I reinvested my entire 401(k) in Dunkin’ Donuts.

        • HAHAHA Love it! Hey gotta strike while its hot. So.. how many girls are going to be showing up on a set location with that book in hand?

  37. when i read the description i just thought it sucked! A sheep herder….. please…..

i just wanted to share i little info with everyone, i just gratuated university yesterday !! sooo freaking happy!! it only took me 7 years :P (i’m very lazy)

    • Congratulations! So, what did you major in? :)

      • Thnx!! Cultural and Social studies :)

    • Congratulations, Manon…..I’m not sure I’d have the la….ah…patience to spread it out for 7 years…..but best wishes and congrats, again :)

  38. OMG> ROFLMAO

This is the best LtR ever! The pic of Rob in glasses makes me squee too.

I think Rob is a very complicated, very dark man, and likes to be depressed. He wants to portray JOB in a biopic. Come on! LOL

He prob likes to challenge himself, too. If someone says, oh, that book is too esoteric, too studious, too difficult, etc, i’m the first to pick it up and read it. LOL. (“Not for me”, is what i’m thinking)

I love that he reads shit like this.
well, fuck, i just love him period really.

    LOL

  39. So that is why my grannie is so hot and bothered lately, she is in a book club with Rob! This guy can make anyone hot for him! Love you guys! I really don’t care what he reads, he can read me the phone book and I would be happy!

  40. He’s totally messing with the fans…
Because he’s far too busy romancing Kristen, Emilie, and whomever else is the flavor of the month for the gossip columnists.

Plus, we all know he’s deep into Tyler Roth character but also working to maintain a sense of Edward’s brooding mysteriousness…after all, Eclipse is not that far away. Gotta hold on to some of that character.

Or maybe he’s gonna read it while drunk. Like watching Wizard of Oz with Pink Floyd playing.

    Regardless, I dig him.
    And his sheep-loving self.
    Baaaaaaaaa!

  41. p.s. “An ounce of pretension is worth a pound of manure.”

That’s from the Poet Laureate of Dogwood Lane.
    Of course.

    (NAME IT!)

    • Steel Magnolias!! I heart that movie. Best movie quote lines ever! If it had hair it would be a St Bernard.

  42. Look at what two shirts just resurfaced! TOGETHER!

    http://www.spunk-ransom.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/robert-pattinson-new-6309-15.jpg

    • OMR! Dude, the Bali shirt AND the Stoli shirt!!!!! At the SAME TIME!!! It does not get any worse, or more wonderful than this :)))

    • I recognize every single article of clothing on his body in that photo.

  43. yup. Did the same, went straight to Amazon. Thank you for your honesty in saying what we were ALL thinking! That book looks AWFUL. For a minute there, I doubted my depth and intelligence. Sheesh, I mean I love great literature as much as the next girl….but an Icelandic sheep herder? good lord. Lighten up Rob.

  44. So about the little Shane West thing, I was in some store back in november when all the little twilight teeny boppers were taking over the world (they still are) and some girl looks at a poster of Edward Cullen and says “Oh, he’s in my favorite movie, but it’s not Twilight” So I’m thinking, ‘Okay, Harry Potter..’ NOPE. The little unknowledgeable teenager says, “Yeah, he was in A Walk to Remember.” Is it just me who thinks Rob and Shane West look nothing alike and this girl must have been suffering from some sort of optical disfunction?

    • Umm, what?? I guess they have a similar body type but other than that they don’t look alike, not to mention those girls about 8 years off on that one. I loved Shane West in a Walk to Remember and am not ashamed to admit that I started watching ER again when he was on it. I think he’s getting better looking with age (or it’s because I’m getting older :/) I can only hope our Robbie still looks that good 10 years from now

  45. Another fantastic ‘lol’ letter!

I must point out though guys … not all British men are smart lol

Some, to my dismay, are mind numbingly thick! lol

  46. Does this man look pretentious to you?

    http://www.popsugar.com/3404514?page=0,0,10

I can forgive him a thousand bucolic Scandinavian novels for every time he talks to a little girl like this. *melt*

    • I was thinking the same thing! And, I’m jealous of that little girl! haha

    • Rob talking to that little girl in such an adorable, sweet way make me spontaneously ovulate. And I’m not even interested in having a baby.

    • How precious is that?! I think my ovaries just went into overdrive.

  47. Don’t ever talk bad about my BF again. He’s awesome and I think that the book was a prop for this silly-ass movie. But Rob is perfect, never pretentious and I lurv him.

Sh*t I have to go back and lay down. Hope I didn’t only write Robutssin Scribble again.

  48. i’m just glad he reads because people who read will eventually end up in a library. and bumping uglies in a library is definitely hot.

    • the old book section where ross’s thesis is shelved right? NICE!

      • ^^^^ HIGH-larity!

  49. Um, who wants to bet that if Rob started carrying around an unabridged copy of Webster’s Dictionary (you know that’s what he has in his daddy case) that it would disappear off of Amazon faster than hot pockets sales have spiked in the last year.

  50. All of the copies of this book at SF public library are in circulation – coincidence?

I may try to read this. Although what I should really be doing is getting a job ASAP so I can get to Vancouver in the fall….

    • no way! amazing!

      • I did not read all these posts, but….. it’s safe to say Rob is a method actor. Maybe the main character in the book (Bjartur or whaterver) has something in common with Tyler. I don’t have any idea what Tyler is supposed to be like. Does anyone have details about Remember Me’s plot?

Quite honestly, the book looks in near perfect condition (from a distance anyway), like it’s never even been opened. Maybe it’s just a prop.

Regardless, none of this makes him pretentious. He’s filming a movie. Is being an actor pretentious? Some might say yes. I don’t think Rob is a “typical” actor though, so I would like to say he is not.
